O you who believe!Let not a group scoff at another group,it may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some)women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it, to insult one’s brother after having Faith [i.e. to call your Muslim brother (a faithful believer) as: “O sinner”, or “O wicked”, etc.]. And whosoever does not repent, then such are indeed Zalimun (wrong-doers, etc.).[Surah Al Hujuraat ayat 11
I am pretty sure, all of us , in our lives, have been subjected to a lot of name calling by bullying class mates, peers or friends out of fun. Many of us must have done that to others out of pure hurting intention or to casually label someone because we think they ARE that and so on.
It is a very dangerous problem that exists within us today.. many Pakistanis, our elders or the people we interact with, casually label someone based on their religious belief or practices.
If someone practices what is right and forbids what is wrong based on the basic principles of shari’ah,quran and sunnah, he/she is labelled a wahabbi or an extremist or a backward person. On the other hand if someone does something wrong and someone who does have the correct knowledge corrects him/her so harshly and goes to the length of offending him/her by calling names or labelling with stereotypes.
Sounds pretty wrong doesnt it? But it is even more wrong because when the Propeht SAW was forbidden by Allah SWT for passing judgements OR making the decision of who will enter jannah o jahannum (Paradise or Hell) then who are we? If Allah SWT Himself mentions in the Qur’an:-
“And (there are) others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a deed that was righteous with another that was evil. Perhaps Allah will turn unto them in forgiveness. Surely, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful .” Surah Al-Tawbah ayat 102.
Then why are we so confident about the final outcome? So today if you are labelled something nasty, been called a wahabbi because you implement the quran and sunnah strictly or raise your hands while Salah, or as a hypocrite or anything that does not befit you in anyway… be happy because Allah SWT has done extreme justice to this case as well.Lets take a quick example:-
Person A backbites about Person B for acting too pious when he is not. As he does it, the good deeds of Person A transfers straight in to the account of Person B and he gets his good deeds whereas the bad deeds of Person B go in the account of Person A 🙂 talk about balancing equations :p
And as for those who label others out of pure mockery and out of sheer know-it-all-ness should know that it just harms them. Today if we point a finger at someone 4 fingers point back at us. It is not for us to decide who is on the right path and who isnt, in such a fragile state of the Muslim ummah, each one of us should be more focused on helping each other to become one and united rather than discouraging someone to follow what is the right thing.
Narrated by Abu Huraira
The Prophet said, “Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others’ faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah’s worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!”) [Sahih Bukhari]
