The worst 30 minutes

Salamalikum.

It was after the end of the first roza (fast) and I was getting ready to leave for Salat ul Isha ( the Isha Prayer) . It was slightly raining outside and as usual I was just ignoring it like it was something VERY normal. And so it seemed.
Within a minute, there was this loud bang which was actually the sound of thunder. Usually I love thunderstorms, the moderate noise of the thunder and the lightening makes me all awww and wow-ish but this time it was so different. Within minutes I was crouching to a corner with my fingers in my ears and whimpering like a stranded cat. Funnily enough, my 5 month old kitten was all calm and playing around and whenever there was this big bang of thunder she would run towards the place where the sound came from.

But while I sat on my couch all jumpy and scared by the deathly sounds of thunder, all I could pray was for Allah SWT to have mercy on me and to save me from His Anger. We, humans, are so helpless. Things happen in front of us and we cannot do ANYTHING to prevent it. No matter how much we progress in terms of technology or science, in the end of the day we are just humans and the power of God is Eternal and Majestic. The thunder and lightening, who has control over it? Only Allah SWT does.. if He wills, He could avert it and make the lightening fall on some house or a tree (which happened once and the tree was in tatters). But no, Allah SWT is Rahman ( The Most Gracious)Ā  He saves us from His anger and reminds us so that we may be amongst those who repent and ask His forgiveness. All these signs in this world are for us to take heed from and repent before it is too late. Before we stand infront of our Lord in need of his Mercy and forgiveness and Allah forbids that does not happen then where will we end up?

12. It is He who shows you the lightning, as a fear (for travellers) and as a hope (for those who wait for rain). And it is He Who brings up (or originates) the clouds, heavy (with water).

13. And Ar-Ra’d (thunder) glorifies and praises Him, and so do the angels because of His Awe, He sends the thunderbolts, and therewith He strikes whom He wills, yet they (disbelievers) dispute about Allah. And He is Mighty in strength and Severe in punishment.

Surah Ar-Ra’d ayats 12-13

  1. Omg, I was so scared too! Alhamdulillah, Allah had mercy on us, I was terrified and kept asking Allah to forgive us. Remembering how powerful Allah SWT is! Great choice of words, really like the writing šŸ™‚

Indeed.. my sisters kept laughing at me because i would scream and yelp so bad but the sound was horrible. I tried sitting in my room for a while but i couldnt, i ran away :$ jazakAllah khair , spread around the word šŸ™‚

  3. I remembered how terrifying the scene of Qayamah would be when everything will start to end.

  4. I like how Islam is balanced in so many respects… even with something as simple as thunder, we see the balance between an instrument of fear and admonishment on one hand, and offering hope and an opportunity to turn to Allah on the other.

There is no flaw with the word of Allah SWT but we humans are so used to finding errors in everything that we HAVE to do it and mess up our way of thinking.
